What Kids Around the World Eat

1.How does this article use non-written texts or media to communicate ideas?

The article used pictures of children from around the world eating breakfast, and what their breakfast look like. These pictures are colorful and attractive, therefore grabbing the reader’s attention to learn how diverse breakfast across different culture can be.

2. Does the chosen format/layout suit the article’s content? Explain.

Yes, it does. The author includes vivid and elaborate captions under each picture taken. It also demonstrates the diversity of what different people from different countries have for breakfast. Pictures are shown separately with captions to correlate with the central idea.

3. How was your experience different from reading more conventional texts?

Because the article is so much more colorful than conventional texts, it makes me want to read more about what children eat. Because of the layout design suits the topic and the central idea, the attractiveness outshines conventional texts. This article gives me a sense that I should complete it, and that I can enjoyably read it without scanning through and just want to get the reading over with.

Dark Energy

1. How does this “article” use non-written texts or media to communicate ideas?

This article is mainly auditory, accompanied by a set of visual images, meaning that if we don’t toggle the captions, we will only be able to listen to what the writer says, with pictures as reference. She uses her voice to communicate with us, while constantly refer back to the images so that we can get a sense of what she is talking about, since the message she conveys is rather abstract.

2. Does the chosen format (slideshow) suit the article’s content? Explain.

Because she wanted to use her artwork to tell us about what dark energy is, her voicing of captions can adequately articulate the fascinating world of dark energy, which not many of her audience are familiar with the topic as much as she does. By her slow but just about right speech delivery, readers (or rather, listeners and viewers) can understand more about the topic.

3. How was your experience different from reading more conventional texts?

Since the reading is mainly auditory, I do not necessarily have to sit down and read the text. I can walk around in my room multitasking, while still maintaining attention to the audio and constantly referring back to the pictures. I cannot do that with conventional texts.

1.What non-essay forms are you considering using in your individual article?

We plan to produce texts with one half words and one half pictures, a layout that looks a lot alike the article What Kids Around the World Eat, because we will be providing much information about the consoles and how its evolution shape our gaming experience nowadays, we need to provide a lot of details of the design of notable consoles, especially the ones that are less popular.

2.What format (print, podcast, website, etc) do you think makes the most sense for your group’s topic and target audience? Explain.

The format of a website is the most suitable. We cannot use a podcast because we will be displaying a lot of pictures. A website gives us possibilities, and instead of separating different ideas by different paragraphs in an essay, we can use side tabs to organize our speech, as well as making the layout in a more neat structure.

What Kids Around the World Eat

1. How does this article use non-written texts or media to communicate ideas?

It is very simple. The article features pictures of children from all around the world eating different kinds of breakfast. The article also features pictures of just the meal. The pictures are very clear and simple, and show all the different types of food a child may eat.

2.Does the chosen format/layout suit the article’s content? Explain.

I believe it does. I believe that explaining the different types of meals through text be difficult for the reader to picture what exactly each child is eating. Instead the pictures that are shown shows the reader what exactly the author is talking about.

3.How was your experience different from reading more conventional texts?

I liked to reading articles that contain lots of pictures. I like articles like this because they grab my attention. I sometimes tend to shy away from texts that have too many words because I often find myself losing interest in them. That was not the case with this article.

1.How does this “article” use non-written texts or media to communicate ideas?

This article allows for the viewer to listen to the author while following along with a slideshow. The viewer is able to look at the specific work of art and listen to the author’s input on it.

2.Does the chosen format (slideshow) suit the article’s content? Explain.

I believe this chosen format does suit the article’s content. There is a lot the author wants to cover in her article so it makes sense to use a slideshow. By using a slideshow she is able to present all her ideas in a rather short amount of time.

3.How was your experience different from reading more conventional texts?

For this article, I did not have to scroll down the page. I simply clicked on the play button and let the author do the rest. I just sat there and listened to the author present her ideas.

1.What non-essay forms are you considering using in your individual article?

I am definitely thinking about using a slideshow in my individual article. I feel like using a slideshow will allow me to present my ideas easier. It is a simple yet effective method. I am strongly considering using a slideshow.

2.What format (print, podcast, website, etc) do you think makes the most sense for your group’s topic and target audience? Explain.

I believe that a website makes the most sense for our target audience. A website will allow us to organize our individual articles. I am sure my partners will also be including lots of pictures in their articles so a website would work best. I am not convinced a print or podcast format would be the best option for us.

What Kids Around the World Eat

1.How does this article use non-written texts or media to communicate ideas?

This article uses photos of food and the kids eating it, to add another dimension to the article. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words… I’m not sure that’s true, but it does make text come to life. I’m sure the article would not have left such an impact in our mind if it had not been for the photos. They’re much easier to recall than anything else in the text.

2.Does the chosen format/layout suit the article’s content? Explain.

The chosen format is great. It makes it so easy to compare the differences as all the images are laid out in the same fashion. As we discussed in class, it also looks like you could eat all the food. It suits the content as it makes it easy to see “What kids around the world eat for breakfast”. I don’t want a formal academic essay on the subject.

3. How was your experience different from reading more conventional texts?

It’s much better than reading endless bodies of text. While there is something nice and pure about only text based articles, images make articles I’m not particularly interested in, which is 95%, much more interesting.

1.How does this “article” use non-written texts or media to communicate ideas?

It was lovely! It was so easy to concentrate on the content when I didn’t have to muster up any more energy to actually read the thing. By the time I had gone through a few images I actually got rather interested. It was a great way to communicate the ideas.

2.Does the chosen format (slideshow) suit the article’s content? Explain.

It suits the article very well as it makes it easy to listen to the understanding on the image at the same time as looking at it. If you had to read the text, you would have to just back and forth from the image to the text which isn’t much fun.

3.How was your experience different from reading more conventional texts?

Much better. I wish every article had an audio equivalent.

1.What non-essay forms are you considering using in your individual article?

We’re going to use lots of images. Most gamers don’t want to read text. We like cheap thrills and kills, not intellectual stimulation.

2.What format (print, podcast, website, etc) do you think makes the most sense for your group’s topic and target audience? Explain.

We’re going to have a website. I’m a little worried that three articles doesn’t really qualify for filling up a website, but that’s what we’re using. I would rather have made a PDF or print, but i’m not that bothered. It’s much better than a podcast. I’m sure we can fill it up with lots of stuff.
